American fascination for Chinese themes in ceramic objects, furniture, fashion and jewelry was inspired in the 1930s by Pearl S. Buck’s novels about China. Fashion evolved from the parody of Chinese silk brocade robes, hair sticks and khol eye liner of the earlier flapper decade to a sophistication about Chinese dynastic themes and color. These earrings feature topaz and tourmaline crystal and handmade beads simplified by a linear silhouette.
